Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Mr. Hargett spoke to us this week about being innovative, successful employees in a competitive work environment.

As employees, it will be our job to be prepared, show up, be professional, do the right things for the right reasons, the right way, and exceed expectations.
He also taught us that the people who hang out in the break room are bad people to be. Apparently, they are looked down on.

He also taught us a sort of advancement schedule. The career stages are as follows:
 Apprentice- 0-5 years
 Independent Contributor- 2-45 years
 Expert- 5-45 years
 Manager/Mentor- 10-45 years

Mr. Hargett told us that 65% of kids in preschool today will work in jobs or careers that don't even exist yet.  I found that pretty interesting, and actually encouraging. As a freshman who doesn't really know what she's doing with her life, I have to say, I am encouraged by the fact that there will be some job out there suitable for me. This brings up another point he suggested: that we make connections. The people we meet in our college years will stay with us and perhaps contribute to our futures in major ways. With that kind of support, at least I know I always have a future somewhere doing something.
